JAKARTA – President of the United States (US) Donald Trump has drawn criticism again. This time, Trump used footage of the success of NASA’s space mission as part of his presidential election campaign video.
Quoted from the New York Times, the NASA space agency and the families of astronauts criticized the use of space missions as part of the presidential election campaign. Because even though it can be accessed by the public, NASA’s space mission is not tied to the campaign efforts of one of the candidates or election candidates.
“As a government agency, NASA will not promote or endorse any commercial products, services, or activities. Astronauts or employees currently employed by NASA may not have the names, likenesses or other personality traits featured in any advertising or marketing materials,” he said. NASA, Friday 5 June.

Not only NASA, veterans and the families of astronauts do not agree that the space agency is involved in politics. Through his Twitter account, retired NASA astronaut Karen L. Nyberg said the Trump campaign video had not received approval from the family.
“It disturbs me that video images of me and my son are being used in political propaganda without my knowledge or consent,” Nyberg tweeted, tagging NASA and spokesman Jim Bridenstine.
The nearly three-minute video also features short clips from the non-NASA launch of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and CEO Elon Musk’s views at last week’s launch.
Not only that, there is also President John F. Kennedy speech in 1962 setting out the goal of landing on the Moon at the end of his term, as well as video footage of the Apollo 11 mission, a Trump speech in 2018 promising the achievement of new spaces and the launch that took place last Saturday.
It is known that as many as 4,000 people have signed a petition on the Change.org website seeking to “Stop Donald Trump from politicizing the achievements of SpaceX and NASA,” in this 2020 presidential election campaign.
