Apple Warns Rioters Who Loot Their Devices From Its Store

JAKARTA – Apple recently reopened its retail stores in the United States (US). However, demonstrations and looting actually took place, along with community protests over the death of black citizen George Floyd by the police.

Quoting Forbes, several retail stores in the US including the Apple Store were subjected to vandalism and looting. Even though the looted Apple devices are not necessarily able to be used by looters immediately, after leaving the building.

But this was ignored, the mass looting action. Apple has also activated a certain security system, which allows thieves to use their devices without making legal purchases.

“Please return this device to the store. This device has been deactivated and is being tracked. We will be watching you,” said a notification that Apple automatically tracks, Wednesday, June 3.

Apple stores attacked or damaged are located in Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Philadelphia. The looters at that time stole any product that could be taken.

Indeed, Apple embeds security features on each of its devices. This security system allows Apple to monitor its device activity if it is stolen or activated from an illegal purchase.

This security system allows sending the location of the cellphone after being forcibly activated, to the authorities. So Apple makes it possible to remotely disable the phone for any illegal activity.

For information, theft of iPhones and other high-end devices has occurred in recent years. Seeing this, Apple immediately took action by launching and embedding all of its iPhone products with applications Find My iPhone which allows the user to track his device.

If the device is lost, Apple says “select Lost Mode to lock it right away and start tracking its location. “

This sad event is not long after Apple is preparing to reopen its stores of more than 100 stores across the US, due to long closures due to the coronavirus pandemic. Seeing locations attacked and looted in cities including New York, Los Angeles and Washington, Apple closed its stores again for the safety of its employees.

The looting came one week after riots and protests over police violence that killed George Floyd, an incident Apple CEO Tim Cook called “nonsense” in a memo to employees.

“I have heard from many that you feel fear, fear in your community, fear in your daily life, and, most cruel of all, fear your own skin. To our colleagues in the Black community, we see you. You are important. , your life is important, and you are valued here at Apple, “Cook said.
